Lafayette Symphony to perform July 4 at Slayter CenterWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra will be the featured entertainment during the annual "Stars and Stripes" concert and fireworks show on Sunday, July 4, at Purdue University. The rain date is Monday, July 5.Entertainment at Slayter Center of Performing Arts will begin at 6:15 p.m. with the Purdue Jazz Band. The Lafayette Symphony will take the stage at 7:15 p.m., and the fireworks display will follow at about 9:30 p.m. The concert will include performances by the Sisters of Thunder, the Greater Lafayette Freedom Singers, and the Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. Dick Jaeger will be the master of ceremonies. Reserved parking for those who purchase $20 VIP passes will be available just east of Tarkington and Wiley residence halls and along Russell Street and Ross-Ade Drive north of Stadium Avenue. The passes are available at Bank One, Lafayette Bank and Trust, and Civitas Bank (formerly Citizens Bank) locations; Purdue Employee Federal Credit Union; the Lafayette Symphony office, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette; Marsh Supermarket, 2410 N. Salisbury, West Lafayette; Pack Rat Antiques, 424 Main St., Lafayette; and the Wells Yeager Best drug stores at MarJean Village and 120 N. Third St., Lafayette. Free parking will be available in most university parking garages, the lot north of Ross-Ade Stadium, and at the intramural fields at Indiana 26 and Airport Road. The roads around Slayter Center, including Stadium Avenue between Russell Street and McCormick Road, will be closed starting at noon July 4. Also, updated directions around road construction near campus are available on the Road Construction Web site. Purdue Police remind spectators that pets, fireworks and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
