Consumer and Family Sciences honors studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University's School of Consumer and Family Sciences has presented awards and scholarships to 34 students from Indiana.-- Twelve freshmen received 1998-99 CFS Academic/Leadership Scholarships. Jessica Brita, a food science major from Fort Wayne, Julie James, a dietetics major from Indianapolis, Sadie Tapper, a fashion design major from Plainfield, and Lauren Wielgolewski, a retail management major from Wheaton, received $2,000 awards. Amanda Freeman, Kokomo, Victoria Mankin, Marion, Andrea Martin, a financial management major from Culver, Lyndsay Scaggs, a restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management major from Battle Ground, and Kara Speeb, a dietetics major from Speedway, received $1,000 awards. Megan Cohlhepp, a dietetics major from Marion, Alyssa Mathis, Mishawaka, and Angela Scheetz, Logansport, received $500 awards. -- Four food and nutrition majors received Ada Decker Malott Memorial Scholarships. Nicole Bedwell, a senior from Indianapolis, received a $2,500 award; seniors Jean Tawney, Fredericksburg, and Stephanie Wietlisbach, Batesville, both received awards of $1,500; and Janelle Bailey, a junior from Delphi, received a $1,000 award. -- Freshmen LaDonna Neal, an early childhood education major from Gary, and Michelle Vaulx, an apparel technology major from Indianapolis, received $2,000 CFS Minority Scholarships. -- Tynise Jones from Gary, a freshman who is majoring in restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management, received a $2,000 CFS Minority Scholarship funded by BAA Indianapolis L.L.C., the world's largest commercial operator of airports. -- The $1,000 CFS Dean's Honor Scholarship was renewed for Andrea Yoder, a senior from Kokomo who is majoring in dietetics, Caroline Hiestand, a junior from Chesterton majoring in early childhood education, Cara Curtis, a sophomore from Indianapolis majoring in apparel technology, Erin Seidl, a freshman from Highland majoring in nutrition science/pre-medicine, and Kelly Fulton, a senior from Sheridan. -- Junior Ronald Ondeyko Jr. of Granger received the Joseph and Rebecca Kennedy Award for Financial Planning Excellence, a $500 award presented to juniors or seniors majoring in financial counseling and planning who have achieved excellent academic performance and demonstrated a high potential for success. -- Senior Tara Zmyslo, a sales and sales management major from South Bend, received the $3,000 William and Mary Meese Scholarship for having the highest grade point average after three years of study in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. -- Jennifer Skinner, a freshman from Lafayette, received the $300 Phyllis K. Lowe Scholarship. -- Sophomores Amanda Scruggins, an apparel technology major from Brazil, and Molly Eggenspiller, a retail management major from Madison, received the $1,500 Betty Graham Clark Memorial Scholarship. -- Nicole Evanson, a senior from Carmel who is majoring in youth, adult and family services, received the $600 Robert L. Carr Jr. Memorial Scholarship. -- Megan Marconett, a sophomore majoring in financial planning and counseling from Brookston, received the $1,500 Carol L. Becker Memorial Scholarship. -- The $2,000 Fred G. and Mary Wien Kiebler Scholarship was awarded to Christine Turnock, a sophomore majoring in early childhood education from Dale, and Janelle Bailey, a junior from Delphi majoring in dietetics. -- Amber Biever, a junior majoring in dietetics from Tell City, received a $1,000 award from the Hafele-Stinson Purdue Consumer and Family Sciences Scholarship Fund.
