Flutist brings international reputation to PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Flutist Pamina Blum of Lafayette will perform with harpist Nathalie Chatelain at Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in the last of three Discovery Concerts presented this season by Purdue University Convocations.During the past decade, Blum has attained an ever-growing international reputation. Her playing has been heralded as "pure delight" (Washington Post ) "effortless radiance" (Oxford Mail, England) and "rare perfection" (La Tribune di Terviso, Italy). Her appearances as soloist with orchestra have included the Salzburg Festival, City of London Festival, tours throughout Europe and England with the Camerata Salzburg under the direction of Sandor Vegh, concert tours with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta under Roger Norrington, and guest performances with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, the Symphonique Genevois and the Camerata Bern in Switzerland. She also has performed at numerous chamber music festivals around the world and has taught at the Central Conservatory of Music at Beijing, China, and the Hindemith Foundation in Blonay, Switzerland. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Switzerland, Blum studied with James Galway, Aurele Nicolet and Peter-Lukas Graf. She won several first prizes in European competitions. She plays regularly with harpist Nathalie Chatelain, who will accompany her on this concert, and Austrian harpsichordist Thomas Rogossnig, with whom she recorded the Obbligato Flute sonatas of J.S. Bach and C.P.E. Bach on the Tiara Classics label. Now a resident of Lafayette, Blum appears frequently as soloist in concerts of the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society, the Bach Chorale and the Lafayette Symphony. She also teaches chamber music at Purdue. The concert program will feature the Krumpholtz Sonata for flute and harp in F major, Saint-Saens' "Romance," Ravel's "Piece en forme de Habanera," and Piazzola's "Histoire du Tango." After intermission, Blum will perform Persichetti's Serenade No. 10, Ibert's "Entracte," Faure's "Apres un reve," and Andres' "Narthex."
