Miss Purdue pageant returns to campusNOTE TO JOURNLAISTS: "Cambi," "Allyssya" and "Chasity " are the correct spellings. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Miss Purdue Pageant will return to campus after a six-year absence. The pageant, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center, is associated with the Miss America program. More than $4,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the Purdue finalists, and the woman selected as Miss Purdue will participant in the state contest in June in Terre Haute. The contestants this year are Rebecca Birchler, Evansville, a freshman in the School of Agriculture; Michelle Boardman, West Lafayette a senior in the School of Agriculture; Cambi Cann, Peru, a sophomore in the School of Agriculture; Casey De Paepe, Milan, Ill., a senior in the School of Education; Marsha Gates, Argos, a sophomore in the School of Education; Allyssya Gossett, Yorktown, a sophomore in the School of Technology; Mindi Mitchell, Princeton, a junior in the School of Health Sciences; Breanne Rhoton, Elkhart, a sophomore in the School of Education; Sally Sholl, Rockville, a freshman in the School of Liberal Arts; and Chasity Trafford, Lebanon, a sophomore in the School of Liberal Arts. The event, which will be emceed by Rick Mummey of WAZY radio, is sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board.
