Employee arrested on public indecency charge

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police today (Thursday, 8/6) arrested a university employee after receiving a report of public indecency in Hicks Undergraduate Library.

Arrested about 12:35 p.m. was Jerry R. Lietz, 45, of Wolcott, Ind., an employee of the Grounds Department. A witness pointed him out to police in the library, Officer Kenneth Cox said.

He was questioned at police headquarters, then taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail. He subsequently bonded out.

Cox said the Tippecanoe County prosecutor's office will review the case. Public indecency in Indiana is a class A misdemeanor, which carries up to a one-year jail term and/or up to a $5,000 fine.

Cox said police do not believe that Lietz was involved in recent reported incidents of public indecency on and near the Purdue campus in the past two weeks.
