Saturday, April 19. Brick Bowl. 10 a.m. In front of the Horticulture Building. Teams of landscape architecture students will try to convert 250 bricks and some mortar into mailboxes they had designed earlier.
** Saturday, April 26. Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff celebrity golf tournament. 8 a.m. Purdue South Golf Course. A Gala Week activity. $75 entry fee includes greens fee, cart rental and refreshments. Advance registration required; contact Leroy Keyes, (765) 463-6293.
** Saturday, April 26. Taste of the Caucus. 3-6 p.m. Riehle Plaza in downtown Lafayette. A Gala Week activity. Food from Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff members, Purdue students and Lafayette residents will be available along with a variety of games. Admission is $2, and food tickets are $1 each.
** Saturday, April 26. The Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff Gala FUNdraiser Dance. 9 p.m.-1 a.m. University Inn, West Lafayette. A Gala Week activity. An evening of music, food and spirits to raise money for scholarships, service and leadership awards and gifts for African-American students. $20 per person, $10 per student. ** Sunday, April 27. The Black Cultural Center's New Directional Players spring review. 3 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. A Gala Week activity.
** Sunday, April 27. Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra with the Kalichstein, Laredo, Robinson Trio. 3 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Purdue Convocations special event. Pairs of tickets are $18 and $15 for the public and $10 for students. Family Circle seats are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets are on sale at campus box offices or by phone at (765) 494-3933. Before the concert, conductor Raymond Leppard and Indiana composer David Ott will lead a free, public "informance" discussion at 2 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall.
** Tuesday, April 22. 8 p.m. Fowler Hall. Astronaut and Purdue alumnus John Blaha will give a free public talk on the space program and his four-month experience on board the orbiting Russian space station Mir. Sponsored by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Lafayette's Imagination Station.
** Saturday, April 26. Second annual Gala Week lecture series. 2:45 p.m. Room 188, Purdue Memorial Union. Speakers and times are: James Dworkin, associate dean, School of Management, 2 p.m.; Dr. William Baird, director, Purdue Cancer Center, 2:45 p.m.; and John Hicks, senior vice president emeritus, 3:30 p.m.
** Saturday, April 26. Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Purdue Armory. 350 sixth- to ninth-grade girls from the northern half of Indiana will attend hands-on workshops designed to provide information about math and science-related careers. ** Monday-Friday, May 5-9. 12th Annual Engineering/Management Program. An intensive week-long conference for experienced engineers, scientists, technical specialists and engineering managers who have a desire to update or enhance their technical and managerial skills.
