Zorba, the musical, dances into Elliott March 21

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The national Broadway tour of "Zorba," the musical, stops at Purdue University at 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, for one performance in the Elliott Hall of Music. The show is sponsored by Purdue Convocations with support from Cox Communications.

The story of "Zorba" comes from the popular novel "Zorba The Greek" by Nikos Kazantzakis. Elias Zarou, a veteran Canadian actor with many years in film and television, creates the title role. Zarou's American television credits include "MacGyver," "Who's the Boss," "Room 222" and "Married With Children." He has appeared in a number of feature films, including "Police Academy 3" and "Circle of Two" with Richard Burton and Tatum O'Neal.

The musical boasts a creative team of Joseph Stein, author of "Fiddler on the Roof," and the musical team of Fred Ebb and John Kander of "Cabaret" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman" fame. The New York Post writes that "Zorba is a work of great beauty ... our musical theatre at its pinnacle." The New York Times claims that Zorba is "the best musical since 'Fiddler on the Roof' and 'Man Of La Mancha.'"

Tickets are $26, $20 and $15 for the public and $16, $11 and $10 for Purdue students at campus box offices. Charge by telephone at (765) 494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW.
