Purdue presents 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' Feb. 13

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Broadway hit "Kiss of the Spider Woman" will be at Purdue University for one performance at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in Elliott Hall of Music. The show is part of the Lively Arts Series offered by Purdue Convocations.

Adapted by Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally from Manuel Puig's acclaimed novel, "Kiss of the Spider Woman" features ballads and Latin-inspired melodies written by Broadway veterans John Kander and Fred Ebb of "Cabaret" and "Chicago" fame.

"Kiss of the Spider Woman" contains adult themes. It is a tale of friendship and love that portrays how the relationship between two men sharing a prison cell evolves from hostility to respect and understanding. The men escape the grim reality of incarceration by fantasizing, along with the Spider Woman, about the glamorous world of the 1940 Hollywood movie musical. The current touring production stars Argentine actress-singer Sandra Guida as the Spider Woman. She has performed the lead roles, on and off Broadway, in "Gypsy," "West Side Story," "Chicago" and "Evita."

Tickets are $26, $21 and $15 for the public and $15 and $10 for Purdue students at campus box offices. Charge by telephone at (765) 494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW.
