Public TV stations nationwide are broadcasting a one-hour highlights program produced last year; most Indiana PBS affiliates and other outlets will air a new production of the 1996 show. Additionally, dozens of radio stations in Indiana and the Midwest will broadcast a special one-hour production of this year's show.
The new radio and TV productions will feature highlights recorded during the six live performances of the 63rd annual Christmas Show this weekend (Dec. 6-8) in Elliott Hall of Music on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.
A December tradition since the 1930s, the Christmas Show features a spectrum of holiday songs and scenery that celebrates both the popular and religious aspects of the Christmas season. Featured are the student members of PMO ensembles: the Varsity Glee Club, Purduettes, University Choir, PMO Express and Purdue Bell Choir. Thousands of people from throughout the Midwest annually trek to campus to enjoy the show, which plays to sell-out audiences in the 6,027-seat hall.
Among radio outlets broadcasting the 1996 production are Purdue's WBAA radio stations, AM 920 and 101.3 FM. Air times are 9 a.m. Dec. 21 and 4 p.m. Dec. 23 on WBAA-FM and 9 a.m. Dec. 25 on WBAA-AM.
