Dave Matthews will perform 'unplugged' at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- RCA recording artist Dave Matthews and his duo partner, Tim Reynolds, will perform an acoustic concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. The concert is sponsored by the Purdue Student Concert Committee.

The Dave Matthews Band is known for its unique mix of musical styles including jazz, folk, rock and reggae. The Purdue concert will feature Matthews and Reynolds with acoustic guitars instead of the band. Jeff Langford, adviser to the Purdue Student Concert Committee, said "the sound will be the same. Matthews is the heart of the Dave Matthews Band. He'll bring the same energy and excitement to the stage of Elliott Hall. The fact that the show is acoustic lets the audience hear the music in its purest form."

Matthews' quick rise to success started in 1993 in Charlottesville, Va. The South-African born vocalist/songwriter founded the Dave Matthews Band while working as a bartender. Soon after, Matthews' first big hit, "What Would You Say," earned his band two Grammy nominations and a top spot on the college tour route. His debut album, "Under the Table and Dreaming," went triple platinum. Rolling Stone called the album "one of the most ambitious releases of '94." Since then, Matthews has appeared on the "Late Show With David Letterman," "Saturday Night Live" and MTV's "Spring Break."

Tickets are $20 at campus box offices and Ticketmaster outlets. Charge by telephone at (765) 494-3933.
