Munster prof writes book about Purdue Calumet's 50 years

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.-- Purdue University Calumet's 50-year history has been chronicled in a book written by Lance Trusty, who is a Munster historian and a Purdue Calumet professor of history.

The 160-page, coffee-table-style book, "Purdue University Calumet: The First Fifty Years," traces in words and pictures Purdue Calumet's half-century existence.

The book attempts to convey the emergence, development and impact of the Purdue presence in northwest Indiana's Calumet Region through Trusty's research, observations, interpretations and humor.

"I tried to evoke the realities of the past with the experiences and impressions of faculty, staff and students," said Trusty, a Purdue Calumet faculty member since 1964 who also wrote the book, "Hammond: A Centennial Portrait."

"Purdue University Calumet: The First Fifty Years" costs $25 and can be obtained from the university's Office of Advancement at (219) 989-2323. Indiana residents within the 219 area code also may phone toll free: 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 2323.
