State's first lady to speak at Women in Leadership Workshop

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Indiana First Lady Maggie Kernan will be the keynote speaker on Saturday, March 27, at Purdue University's fifth annual Women in Leadership Workshop.

The workshop, for Purdue students, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. A panel of woman leaders from around the state will be featured at the workshop, which has the theme Accepting the Challenge.

Registration is open to the first 225 participants. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday (3/23). The cost is $10 and includes lunch, a portfolio and conference materials.

Panelists include: Carol Hegel, second vice president of Indiana Farm Bureau; Erin Slater, program director for the College Mentors For Kids program in Indianapolis; Christine Ladisch, Purdue assistant provost; Mary Harrison Ford, community leader; U.S. Air Force Reserve Brig. Gen. Erika Stueterman, director of the Executive Master's Programs at Purdue's Krannert School of Management; Jan Mills, mayor of West Lafayette; Verdell Releford, a foster parent and immediate past co-chair of the Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Tippecanoe County.

Kernan, a Purdue alumna, will share her thoughts and insights on what it takes to be an effective leader. She also will moderate the afternoon panel discussion. An etiquette session will take place at the end of the day.
