Purdue police arrest two men in connection with burglary

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two Lafayette brothers are facing burglary charges after Purdue University police arrested them outside a fraternity house early Friday morning (12/26/03).

Travis L. Clemans, 18, and Daniel R. Clemans, 22, both of 319 Cromwell St., were arrested outside Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, 900 David Ross Road. John Cox, Purdue police captain of special services, said a resident of the fraternity house told police he found the brothers on the third floor of the building at about 4:30 a.m. gathering compact disks and electronic devices into a paper sack and backpack. They told the resident they were picking up the items up for a cousin. When he challenged their story, the brothers fled.

Cox said a routine Purdue police foot patrol was passing the house and arrested the suspects as they exited.

Both were charged with burglary, a class B felony, which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine of up to $10,000. Travis Clemans was released from Tippecanoe County Jail Friday morning after posting $25,000 surety bond. Daniel Clemans was still incarcerated as of noon Friday.
