Trustees OK athletics ticket increases, 'family pricing' for football

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Saturday, 12/20) voted to adjust football ticket prices for 2004, increase single-game ticket prices for women's basketball, and increase single-game and season tickets for volleyball.

The action provides for inflationary increases in football ticket prices, reduced prices for seating in select areas of Ross-Ade Stadium and incremental increases in women's basketball single-game ticket prices.

Season tickets for men's and women's basketball will remain unchanged, as will men's basketball single-game tickets.

Ticket sales are the primary source of revenue for Intercollegiate Athletics, which is self-supporting. The inflationary increase in athletic tickets will fund the increased cost of operations in support of the 18-sport intercollegiate athletic program, said Kenneth P. Burns, executive vice president and treasurer.

The measure expands special pricing in the south end zone begun last year with the introduction of the Family FanZone. For 2004, Intercollegiate Athletics is cutting the price of roughly 3,500 seats in the FanZone from $120 to $90 for season tickets. Single-game tickets in the FanZone will go on sale game days for $15.

"We recognize that family pricing and discount pricing are key to growing our fan base," said Morgan J. Burke, director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "We will continue to examine our pricing strategies and season ticket base in an effort to pack the stadium and grow the fan base and keep the Ross-Ade experience within the reach of families."

Other changes in football ticket pricing include a public season ticket increase from $192 to $198, student season ticket increase from $72 to $78, faculty and staff season ticket increase from $154 to $158 and premium seating increase from $270 to $330. The 2004-05 football season includes six home games.

The price of a women's basketball single-game ticket will increase from $9 to $10, and student single-game tickets will be $5 rather than the current $4. For volleyball, an adult season ticket will be $70, up from $63. A student season ticket will be $35, up from $32. Adult single-game tickets will be $8, up from $6, and student single-game tickets will be $5, up from $3.
