Purdue graduates to participate in commencement on Dec. 21

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will award degrees at the West Lafayette campus on Sunday (12/21) during winter commencement ceremonies.

Ceremonies are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Approximately 2,920 graduates – of whom 2,229 are undergraduates — will earn degrees during the two ceremonies.

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will address graduates at each West Lafayette ceremony in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music. Morning graduation will include the schools of Agriculture, Engineering, Technology and Veterinary Medicine. Afternoon graduation will include the schools of Consumer and Family Sciences, Education, Liberal Arts, Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Science.

Twin brothers Brandon and Brant Cassimere, of Opelousas, La., will share the student responder honors at the morning graduation ceremony. The brothers will both be awarded master's degrees in electrical and computer engineering.

Degrees at the afternoon ceremony will be awarded to students in the schools of Agriculture; Engineering; Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Technology.

Carrie Black of Goshen, Ind, will provide the student response for the afternoon ceremony. Black will receive a bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics.

The commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the Hall of Music stage. The screen will display a close-up image of each graduate as he or she is congratulated after receiving the diploma.

Commencement for students at the Purdue Calumet campus was held yesterday (Tuesday, 12/16).

Tickets, issued to graduation participants for family and friends, are required for admission. The doors will open 90 minutes prior to each ceremony.

Commencement videos for each school will be available to new graduates, their families and friends. The video costs $25 plus $5 postage and handling. Order forms are available at Purdue box offices and will be available from hall ushers at the ceremonies. The Hall of Music box office will accept order forms before and after each commencement ceremony. Videos may also be ordered up to one month after graduation. Order forms are available from the Loeb Playhouse box office or by calling (765) 494-3933.
