November 17, 2003 Birmingham bombing film, presentation slated for FridayWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A screening of Emmy Award winner Spike Lee's film "Four Little Girls," followed by James McNair's presentation, "On Losing Denise: The Birmingham Bombing from a Family's Perspective," will be on Friday (11/21) at Purdue University's Black Cultural Center. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will start at 6:30 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 1. Released in 1997, "Four Little Girls" places the civil rights movement within the context of family, says Dorothy Washington, Black Cultural Center librarian, "and sensitizes one to the loss of four innocent little girls, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley and Addie Mae Collins, and the impact those losses have on the families." After the screening, James McNair, the uncle of Denise McNair, will speak from a family member's perspective. McNair, a retired public school librarian, is currently the assistant librarian for the Brunswick Branch at the Gary Public Library. He received a master of library science degree from the University of Denver and a bachelor's degree in education at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala. After the screening, "Four Little Girls" will be added to the list of films available in the Black Cultural Center library. The full list of films is available online.
