November 14, 2003 Appointments, promotions; facullty and staff honorsAppointments and promotions – Ken Alling, chief of the Purdue University Fire Department, has been named director of emergency planning. In the role, Alling will implement and maintain the Integrated Emergency Management System across the West Lafayette campus. He also will build the university's relationships with other paid and volunteer area fire departments, as well as county, state and federal emergency management agencies. Alling has worked at Purdue for more than 15 years and has been a member of the fire department since 1995. He was named chief in 2000.
Faculty and staff honors – Cody Sipe, director of the A.H. Ismail Center for Health, Exercise and Nutrition, was named the Mid-West American College Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Professional of the Year for 2003. Purdue News Service: (765) 494-2096; purduenews@purdue.edu
