November 14, 2003 Liberal arts fellows to discuss research during panelWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Three fellows from the School of Liberal Arts faculty development centers will highlight their work on Thursday (11/20) during a panel discussion. The event, which is free and open to the public, is at 3:30 p.m. in the Lafayette Room on the Purdue Memorial Union's second floor and will feature representatives from the Humanistic Studies Center and the Center for Behavioral and Social Sciences. The presenters and their topics are: • Terry Davidson, professor of psychological sciences and fellow at the Center for Behavioral and Social Sciences, "Obesity: Outwitting the 'Wisdom' of the Body." • Geraldine Friedman, associate professor of English and fellow at the Humanistic Studies Center, "School for Scandal: Women's Sexuality, Empire and National Identity." • Arkady Plotnitsky, professor of English and fellow at the Humanistic Studies Center, "Two Conceptions of Change and the Structure of Evolutionary Theory." The Center for Behavioral and Social Sciences supports work in social and behavioral sciences in human or animal populations. Fellows in the Humanistic Studies Center pursue scholarly projects in areas such as language, literature, history, philosophy, religion, ethics and rhetoric. The centers fund fellows for one semester so they can focus on research specific to their area. Individuals from the other two faculty development centers in the School of Liberal Arts, Artistic Endeavors and Undergraduate Instructional Excellence, will present next semester.
