Purdue international students to visit area schools

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University students from Romania, Turkey, Ethiopia, Iceland, Wales, Malaysia, India, Belgium and China will share information about their respective cultures with students at two area public schools Nov. 17-21 in observance of International Education Awareness Week.

Purdue international student visitors will be at Harrison High School, 5701 N. County Road 50 W., for a total of 22 individual class periods during the week. The students will talk about daily life, foods, family, education, recreation and housing in their homelands. They will visit world geography, world literature and home economics classes at Harrison, as well as the school's on-site day-care center.

A second group of Purdue international students will visit Burnett Creek Elementary School, 5700 N. County Road 50 W., to provide an age-appropriate international learning opportunity. All children at the school will have visit stations manned by Purdue international students from different countries. The Purdue students will interact with the children, doing demonstrations and playing games from their homelands.

More than 5,000 students and about 700 faculty members representing 126 countries are enrolled or working at Purdue this academic year.
