Writers Community Harvest benefit set for Nov. 13

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue English department faculty will read selections of their own writing at this year's Writers Community Harvest to help feed the hungry in Lafayette.

Sponsored by the Sycamore Review and the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, the reading will be on Thursday (11/13) at 7:30 p.m. in Matthews Hall, Room 210. The event is being held in conjunction with Lafayette Community Harvest, an annual communitywide program to collect food for the needy.

"This is the first time we are featuring all Purdue faculty, most of whom are reading their own work," said Sean M. Conrey, editor-in-chief of Sycamore Review, an English department literary journal. "This gives us the opportunity to benefit the community by donating canned goods and money to the food bank, and also share with the community some of the excellent writers we have at Purdue."

Participating faculty and their works include: Sharon Solwitz, "Blood and Milk"; Minrose Gwin, "Black and White Women of the Old South: The Peculiar Sisterhood in American Literature," "The Feminine and Faulkner: Reading Beyond (Sexual) Difference" and "The Woman in the Red Dress: Gender, Space, and Reading"; Christian Knoeller, "Completing the Circle" and "Voicing Ourselves: Whose Words We Use When We Talk About Books"; Marianne Boruch, "A Stick That Breaks and Breaks," "Moss Burning," "Poetry's Old Air (Poets on Poetry)" and other works; and Dan Morris, "The Writings of William Carlos Williams: Publicity for the Self" and "Remarkable Modernisms: Contemporary American Authors."

Admission will be $3, three cans of food, three non-perishable food items or a combination, which will be donated to Food Finders Food Bank. The public is invited.
