'Financial Times': Krannert executive MBA among world's best

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Krannert School of Management's international executive MBA degree program placed 14th worldwide in rankings released today (Monday, 10/20) by the "Financial Times."

The Krannert Executive MBA program ranked No. 1 in the international course experience category, which the survey describes as "the percentage of classroom teaching hours carried out internationally (outside the country in which the business school is resident)." The Krannert School maintains a partnership with and offers courses at Tias Business School at Tilburg University in The Netherlands; the Graduate School of Business of Central European University in Budapest, Hungary; and ESCP-EAP European School of Management in Paris, France.

"Business is global today, and to be ranked among the top 20 international MBA programs is truly significant," said Richard A. Cosier, Krannert School dean and Leeds Professor of Management. "Our faculty, administrators and support staff work hard to deliver high-quality MBA education here in West Lafayette and all over the world."

Krannert Executive Education Programs offer four executive MBAs through a combination of distance-learning and part-time residence on campus. The Krannert School began offering executive education in 1983.

Wilbur G. "Bill" Lewellen, director of the Krannert School's executive education programs and Herman C. Krannert Distinguished Professor of Management, said, "The 'Financial Times' ranking is solid recognition that our program is world class. Our program has been a model for international executive programs for years."

The 2003 "Financial Times" rankings included 75 schools. The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School received the No. 1 overall ranking. Notre Dame's Mendoza School of Business ranked No. 47. No other Indiana schools were ranked.

In determining its rankings, the "Financial Times" relied heavily on alumni salaries three years after graduation and the percentage of salary increase upon receiving the MBA. Also surveyed were business schools and academic research of faculty members.

Business Week this month ranked Krannert's executive education programs No. 16 worldwide. In September, the "Wall Street Journal" ranked Krannert's full-time MBA program 11th overall and third nationally among public schools.

In addition to the international master's in management, Krannert Executive Education Programs offers the German executive master's of business administration degree (in Hanover).

Also offered are specialized non-degree programs in areas such as engineering management, veterinary management and the new life sciences information technology project management certificate, both at the West Lafayette campus and at corporate training facilities.

The "Financial Times" is a London-based newspaper with a daily circulation of 460,000. The publication covers international news, business and markets.
