Purdue to provide lifetime e-mail addresses to alumni

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After Homecoming Weekend, the Purdue Alumni Association will start making it easier for former students to contact each other via e-mail.

Starting Monday (10/6), students who graduated in May or August 2003 can sign up for lifetime e-mail forwarding at https://www.purdue.edu/alumniemail. The service will be expanded to other alumni during 2004, said Mark Wright of the Purdue Alumni Association.

"A permanent lifetime e-mail address is the first of a series of electronic services the Purdue Alumni Association will be offering to alumni," Wright said. "Over the next few years we plan to provide an online alumni directory, live updating of alumni directory information and job search services.

"A permanent e-mail forwarding address is something our members have been requesting for several years. We have received requests from individual members, club leaders and our board of directors. We have a great group of alumni who want to be better connected to each other and the university."

Recent graduates will be able to access the career accounts they had as students and sign up for an alumni address ending with "@alumni.purdue.edu." People using the service will need to provide a regular e-mail address to which messages can be forwarded. Purdue will not provide message storage or message sending capabilities. The forwarding service will scan messages for e-mail viruses.
