As a student trustee, Cusick will represent students at all board meetings and remain informed about university issues.

Cusick was selected based upon her academic credentials and participation in extracurricular activities. She said she is looking forward to serving as a student voice when the trustees discuss issues of concern to students.

"I hope to bring a new and unique perspective to the board and will work to promote the best interest of the students, university and the state of Indiana," Cusick said. "It will be a privilege to work with such an accomplished and dynamic group of individuals, and I am looking forward to getting started."

Cusick serves as the programming director for the industrial relations committee of the Purdue Engineering Student Council, through which she will help organize the largest student run job fair in the nation. She also serves as a teaching assistant for the Freshman Engineering Honors Program. In addition, Cusick recently completed a term as vice president of the co-op student association and has completed three co-op work sessions with Marathon Ashland Petroleum.

Previous activities include service as a sophomore adviser to the President's Leadership Class, a group invited by Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and his wife to discuss leadership issues at their home. Cusick also served on the Freshman Engineering Student Advisory Council and as an undergraduate teaching assistant. In addition, Cusick was selected as a counselor for the Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects camp and as a participant in the Emily Mauzy Vogel sophomore leadership development conference at which she was awarded the emerging leader award.

Additional previous extracurricular activities include conducting campus tours as a member of the Purdue Student Host Organization, along with participation in the Purdue juggling and unicycling club and the Purdue Crew Team. She also participated in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest and Engineering projects in Community Service, through which she helped to create a "flash wall" to add to a science museum at a Greater Lafayette middle school.
