Expert can talk about book, meeting Dali Lama

On Sunday (9/7), a Purdue University philosophy professor will present a copy of his book about finding peace during troubled times to the Dali Lama during the religious leader's visit to Bloomington's Tibetan Cultural Center.

Donald Mitchell included the Dali Lama's reflections in his new book, "Transforming Suffering: Reflections on Finding Peace in Troubled Times." Mitchell was an organizer of a meeting between Buddhist and Christian spiritual leaders who gathered in April 2002 at the Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky to discuss life's most difficult questions. He and James Wiseman of Catholic University of America then edited the reflections of those present, as well as letters from the Dali Lama and Pope John Paul II, so their spiritual advice could help people find peace and overcome suffering.

Mitchell can be contacted for comment before or after his meeting with the Dali Lama.

The Dali Lama will visit the Tibetan Cultural Center to dedicate the Chamtse Ling, an interfaith temple with a mission to promote world peace and harmony. For more information about the day's events, visit the web site.
