August 22, 2003 Boiler Volunteer Network reaches out to new volunteersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boiler Volunteer Network at Purdue University is sponsoring a Community Service Fair to showcase volunteer opportunities available in Greater Lafayette. The fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, on the Memorial Mall. Representatives from approximately 25 local service agencies will be available to discuss ways to get involved with their organizations. Kimberly Martin, assistant dean of students for community engagement and involvement, said volunteering can provide valuable experience and make a significant impact. "The event is being organized to provide students, faculty and staff, along with the Greater Lafayette community, an opportunity to come together to learn about area service organizations and ways to make our community a better place to live," Martin said. "Purdue has a great spirit of community service. Our volunteers really do make a difference." The fair is free and open to the public. The Boiler Volunteer Network opened in the spring of 2000.
