Police looking for suspect in theft

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police are looking for a woman suspected of taking credit cards and other items from a locker in the Recreational Sports Center on Wednesday night (7/9).

John Cox, Purdue captain of special services, said a female student reported Thursday morning (7/10) that a credit card, debit card, three checks and $10 in cash were taken from her unlocked locker.

Cox said the victim left the items in her locker while she worked out at the sports center at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. She told police that she was not aware the theft had taken place until the Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union notified her that her credit card had been used to make purchases at three stores in and around the Tippecanoe Mall Wednesday night.

Workers at stores where the credit card was used and at the sports center described the suspect as a black woman, 18 to 22 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing 135 to 150 pounds. She had a medium build with black hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing shorts and a light colored shirt.

"We have had instances of theft at the Recreational Sports Center before," Cox said. "People using the facilities should remember the importance of locking their lockers to protect their belongings."

Anyone with information should contact the Purdue Police Department at (765) 494-8221.
