Mad cow disease experts available on uplink

Purdue University will be offering a satellite uplink Wednesday (5/21) with taped comments from experts following today's (Tuesday, 5/20) announcement of the positive test for mad cow disease in Alberta, Canada.

Experts featured on the uplink

• Christopher Hurt is a professor of agricultural economics who is knowledgeable about the economic impact of mad cow disease. He is an expert pricing strategies and livestock futures market problems.

• H. Leon Thacker is a professor of veterinary pathology and director of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Purdue. Thacker has expertise on the disease and its potential implication for U.S. farmers. He has published more than 100 articles on animal diseases and diagnostics.

• Simon Kenyon is an associate professor of livestock population health at the School of Veterinary Medicine. He is a nationally recognized expert in animal health and nutrition. Kenyon is an expert on foot and mouth disease and was in England during an outbreak in the 1960s. Kenyon is knowledgeable about mad cow disease and its relevance to U.S. citizens.
