May 9, 2003 Purdue e-Enterprise Center to host technology conference WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The e-Enterprise Center at Purdue University's Discovery Park is hosting a conference called Energizing the Enterprise: Technology Connecting Science, Manufacturing and Service on Wednesday and Thursday (5/14-15). The conference will take place in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms starting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with a free box lunch. Joe Pekny, director of the center, and Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will speak. All the events are free and open to the public. Ned Howell, managing director of the e-Enterprise Center, said the conference will be of interest to a wide range of people who want to know what Purdue is doing in the e-enterprise area or want to find out more about the state of e-commerce in business and using the new technology in government. The afternoon session, from 1-3 p.m. in the union's South Ballroom, will feature three speakers from industry: Ed Buckley, United Parcel Service Inc. vice president of brand management customer communications, will speak on "Strategies for Synchronizing Technology with Commerce and the Supply Chain." Brian Letts, UPS WorldPort integration manager will speak on "Transforming Cutting Edge Technology into Reality at UPS WorldPort." Jennifer Kurtz, director of the Indiana Department of Commerce eCommerce Office, will speak on "Teaching and Old Dog New Tricks: Reconditioning Government's Response to Citizens." A poster session illustrating Purdue professors' research in areas related to e-enterprise will follow the talks. Purdue has 14 centers on campus exploring different aspects of e-enterprise. The Discovery Park e-Enterprise Center is the umbrella organization that brings all the areas of e-enterprise expertise together. David Becker, CEO of TechPoint in Indianapolis, will be the featured speaker at dinner in the union's South Ballroom. The title of his talk is "Is there Energy in Indiana?" Charles O. Rutledge, Discovery Park director, also will speak. On Thursday morning, four of Purdue's individual e-enterprise centers will hold open houses and presentations. Wrapping up the event is a 1:30 p.m. talk by Purdue alumnus Gene Meieran, of Intel Corp. The title of his Fowler Hall talk is "Controlling the Expansion of the Virtual Universe."
