Class offers jump start, refresher for students who want to succeed

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Summer is the optimal time to shape up a current or future college student's study skills.

College students, incoming freshmen or nontraditional students can enroll in the eight-week course, How to Survive at College, to improve their study skills.

The three-credit-hour course will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays, starting June 17 and finishing July 31.

"This is the ideal class for any adult considering returning to college, an incoming freshman who wants to prepare for college and current students who want to improve their studying skills," said instructor Sara Coffman, instructional developer for Center for Instructional Excellence who has been teaching the course for 30 years.

"College is expensive, and if you go to college and fall behind or even flunk a course, due to poor study skills, you'll be wasting valuable time and money."

This hands-on course, offered by Purdue's School of Liberal Arts, covers skills such as learning how to master tests at the college level, to memorize material faster and to study faster and more effectively.

The class is open to all Purdue students as well as a non-degree seeking students. Fees for the class are the same as other Purdue classes and vary according to students' residence, enrollment status and Purdue employment. For more information about applying or fees contact the Admissions Office at (765) 494-1776.
