April 21, 2003 DNA research hits half-century mark This year marks the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the chemical structure of DNA, whose double-helical shape has become one of the most recognized images in modern biology. Many scientists consider the new era "the century of biology," making 2003 an opportunity for journalists to explore not only where DNA research has taken us, but where we are going from here. On Friday (4/25) Purdue University’s biology department will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication date of James Watson and Francis Crick’s landmark research in the journal Nature. The event will be in Purdue’s Lilly Hall, Room 1-105, from 3-4:30 p.m. and will feature two talks by scientists on the implications of DNA’s discovery and subsequent research.
