April 21, 2003 DNA research hits half-century markThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the chemical structure of DNA, whose double-helical shape has become one of the most recognized images in modern biology. Many scientists consider the new era "the century of biology," making 2003 an opportunity for journalists to explore not only where DNA research has taken us, but where we are going from here. On Friday (4/25) Purdue Universitys biology department will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication date of James Watson and Francis Cricks landmark research in the journal Nature. The event will be in Purdues Lilly Hall, Room 1-105, from 3-4:30 p.m. and will feature two talks by scientists on the implications of DNAs discovery and subsequent research.
