April 14, 2003 Five groups to square off in Battle of the BandsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Five bands will compete for the title of best band on the Purdue University campus during the annual Battle of the Bands concert on Friday, April 25. The concert begins at 6 p.m. in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Tickets, which are $1 for Purdue students with an ID and $3 for the general public, can be purchased at the door. Each rock band KQ, Autumn Blue, Sandalwood, Saraphim and Flip Down South will play a 45-minute set. Performances will be evaluated by a panel of judges from the community on intonation, cohesiveness, originality, stage presence and crowd involvement. The top three bands will receive $200, $100 and $50, respectively. Kim Stiller, Purdue Student Union Board director of concerts, says the concert should be a great way to kick off Grand Prix weekend. "Purdue students and the Greater Lafayette community should come to the Battle of the Bands because it is a good alternative to other late-night activities," Stiller says. "It will be a good way to see upcoming musical artists in the area." The five bands were selected from 29 demo tapes submitted to a PSUB committee.
