Buzzanell wins Haas Award for efforts on behalf of women

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Patrice Buzzanell is the recipient of this year's Violet Haas Award from Purdue University's Council on the Status of Women.

A reception will be from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Purdue Memorial Union's Anniversary Drawing Room to honor Buzzanell, an associate professor of communication in the School of Liberal Arts. The reception is free and open to the public.

"This is an award for people who have gone above and beyond their job description to enhance the position of women on campus," said Mara Wasburn, assistant professor of organizational leadership in the School of Technology. "Buzzanell has brought out the best in her students and colleagues, and is being recognized for all the intangible ways she has contributed to the development of women's careers here at Purdue."

The Haas Award recognizes individuals, departments or programs that have made "outstanding efforts on behalf of campus women" in areas such as hiring, promotion, education, or for generally enhancing a positive professional climate.

The award is named in memory of Violet Haas, professor of electrical engineering from 1962 to 1986. Haas was known for being a strong, positive role model for women faculty, staff and students.
