April 4, 2003 Earhart's Ninety-Nines to visit 'Flight Trails' exhibit The female pilot group that Amelia Earhart started in the 1930s will make a special trip to Purdue University to view the "Flight Trails" exhibit at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (4/5) at Stewart Center Gallery. The 30 Ninety-Nines expected to attend will view the letter Earhart wrote to start their group during a special presentation. The Ninety-Nines Inc. is an international organization of licensed women pilots, including private pilots and astronauts, from 35 countries. Earhart was elected the first president in 1931, and the group was named for the 99 charter members. The public has been able to view some of Earhart's most personal papers at "Flight Trails," which opened March 3. The exhibit is a collaboration between Purdue Galleries and Libraries. The exhibit is open through April 27 in the new Stewart Center Gallery. Depending on weather, some of the women pilots may fly into the Purdue Airport before 10 a.m. A story about the exhibit is available on the Web.
