April 2, 2003 Kerr cancels, but Boilermaker Black Tie dinner still a go WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Graham Kerr has canceled his appearance as keynote speaker at Purdue University's fifth annual Boilermaker Black Tie Dinner due to health reasons. The dinner will go ahead as planned, and video segments of Kerr will be shown throughout the dinner on Saturday (4/5) at the Purdue Memorial Union. The reception is at 6 p.m. in the South Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union, and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Purdue's hospitality and tourism management department (HTM), which is sponsoring the dinner, contacted all 200 guests before making the decision to go on with the dinner. "It will now be an evening inspired by Graham Kerr," said Joseph Mikol, event marketing director and a hospitality and tourism management senior. Kerr, formerly known as the "The Galloping Gourmet," now emphasizes what he terms the FABIS concept – Fresh and Best in Season. The event is organized by the Society of Hosteurs, a student group made up of HTM majors in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences.
