Purdue University police are investigating a reported theft of a boxed $22,800 computer laser, believed taken at 12:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, 3/26) from inside the southwest door of the Nuclear Engineering Building. A witness told police that a white box containing the laser was taken by a well-groomed dark skinned male in his early 20s, standing about 6 feet tall, weighing about 175 pounds, with short straight gelled black hair. He was wearing a black, long-sleeved, collared shirt, black dress pants, black shoes and a black belt with a large silver buckle with an insignia or object in the middle. He was carrying a black book bag and was last seen walking southeast to Grissom Hall, said Ron Fosnaugh, captain of special services. The box was 2 feet wide, 2 feet tall and 1 foot deep and had a packing label addressed to Keyence Corp./Warehouse in SeaTac, Wash. The equipment, a laserconfocol displacement meter model LT-8110, is used to measure liquid film, and is not hazardous, Fosnaugh said. It weighs about nine pounds.
