March 20, 2003 Expert to discuss trade conflict over genetically modified crops An expert on international food and agricultural policy will speak Friday (3/21) at Purdue University on "Transatlantic GMO Trade Conflict: Why Europe Will Win and the Developing World Will Lose." Robert Paarlberg, a professor of political science at Wellesley College and associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, will speak at 2 p.m. in Krannert Center, Room 108. The talk, sponsored by the Purdue Center for International Business Education and Research, is part of the CIBER Trade and Technology Seminar Series. Paarlberg has written several books on the use of food trade as a weapon, agricultural trade negotiations, U.S. foreign economic policy, sustainable agriculture and U.S. agricultural policy reform. His latest book is "The Politics of Precaution: Genetically Modified Crops in Developing Countries." He also has served as a consultant to the International Food Policy Research Institute, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Intelligence Council and the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization.
