March 17, 2003 Libraries features technology for international guests WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Libraries will showcase its information technology for a Russian delegation visiting on Tuesday (3/18). Four librarians from different Russian universities are traveling to Purdue as part of the Open World Program: Center for Russian Leadership Development at the Library of Congress. The program brings young emerging Russian political leaders to the United States to develop a better understanding between the two nations. "This is an opportunity for Purdue Libraries to demonstrate to international scientific librarians our advances in information, and how we continue to make our services more efficient and productive for users," said Emily Mobley, dean of the Purdue Libraries. The delegation will attend presentations in the morning, then tour the Digital Learning Collaboratory in the John W. Hicks Undergraduate Library. The Digital Learning Collaboratory was created by Purdue Libraries and Information Technology at Purdue to provide students with integrated instruction and multimedia development resources in a wireless instructional area. The delegation will visit public and university libraries in Indiana. Since 1999 Open World has hosted more than 6,000 Russian visitors to America.
