Purdue police arrest student on drug possession charges

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police today (Tuesday, 2/4) arrested a student living at Hilltop Apartments on charges related to marijuana possession.

Jason A. Schroeder, 19, of Aurora, Ill., a freshman in the undergraduate studies program, was arrested at about 3:41 a.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. He was taken to Tippecanoe County Jail, and bond was set at $5,000.

Ron Fosnaugh, Purdue captain of special services, said police went to Schroeder's residence in Hilltop Apartment Building Four after receiving a complaint about the smell of marijuana. Officers found less than 30 grams of marijuana in his apartment, Fosnaugh said.

Maintaining a common nuisance is a Class D felony, punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
