Purdue police arrest two students for campus robbery

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police this morning (Monday, 2/3) arrested two students in connection with the Jan. 29 robbery of another student outside Hilltop Apartments on Ross-Ade Drive.

Ron Fosnaugh, captain of special services, said police arrested Lance E. Evans, 18, a freshman engineering student, from Mooresville, Ind., and Donald R. Wilson IV, 19, a freshman in the undergraduate studies program, of Centreville, Md. The students, both Cary Quadrangle residents, were charged with armed robbery, criminal recklessness, theft and battery.

They were taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail and bond was set at $50,000 each.

Evans and Wilson allegedly attacked a 19-year-old student who was returning to his apartment after visiting friends in Cary Quadrangle on Jan. 29. The incident occurred near Hilltop Apartments Building 5.

The victim told police the attackers hit him in the face and back with a metal, black-handled club and then took his coat. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the coat.

The victim was treated and released at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Robbery is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, if it is committed with a deadly weapon or results in injury. Criminal recklessness and theft are Class D felonies punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Battery is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
