Pharmacy business leaders highlight Purdue lecture series

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ‹ Seven pharmacy business leaders will speak at the Purdue University Dean's Pharmacy Executive Forum, a lecture series that will take place this month through April.

The forum seeks to provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and promotion of greater understanding in the field of pharmacy. While the series is aimed primarily at students, it has value for anyone interested in the field.

"Pharmacy is an important part of the Indiana economy," said Jim Fenn, director of alumni and public relations in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences. "Many of these speakers will offer perspectives valuable to the future of the industry." 

The lectures, which are free and open to the public, all begin at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays in Heine Pharmacy Building, Room 164. Speakers and lecture titles include:

Jan. 24 - Michael B. McMains, attorney at McMains Foster Morse PC. "Reach for the Stars."

Feb. 7 - Dale Kramer, chairman, ShopKo Store Inc. "The Impact of Change and Maintaining Focus."

Feb. 21 - Donna S. Wall, clinical pharmacist, Clarian Health Partners, Indiana University Hospital. "What's a B Student Like Me Doing in a Position Like This?"

Feb. 28 - Dr. Keith D. Carter, medical director, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Opthamology and Visual Sciences. "Professional Life: When Opportunity Knocks, Will You Hear it?"

March 7 - Katherine L. MacFarlane, vice president, Global Marketing at Galen Holdings PLC. "Pharmaceutical Advertising Directly to the Consumer: Should We Have Let Pandora out of the Box?"

March 14 - Donald R. Kiepert Jr., chairman of the board, president and CEO, Point Therapeutics; chairman of the board, Pericor Science, Celadon Science and Sunalert Inc. "How to Leverage Your Pharmacy Background to Become an Entrepreneur."

April 4 - Richard J. Markham, vice chairman of the management board and chief operating officer, Aventis. "How Organizations Win and Why They Lose."
