Two arrested in marijuana case

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two Purdue University students were arrested at Cary Quadrangle early Sunday (1/19) after police responded to a report of marijuana use in the menžs residence hall.

Robert W. Spencer, 18, a Cary Southwest resident, is charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana under 30 grams and maintaining a common nuisance.

Ryan R. Dumka, 18, who lives in Cary Southeast,, is charged with possession of marijuana under 30 grams, reckless possession of drug paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.

Ronald Fosnaugh, captain of special services, said investigators went to Cary Sunday morning after receiving a call reporting a marijuana smoke odor coming from Spenceržs room.

Both students were taken to Tippecanoe County jail at 5:49 a.m. Sunday. Spencer was released on $500 cash bond at about 4 p.m. Dumka was still in jail Monday morning.

Dealing marijuana, reckless possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance are all class A misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in prison and a $5,000 fine. Maintaining a common nuisance is a class D felony with penalties up to 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
