The meeting will be in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom. Researchers also will hold a series of meetings Thursday and Friday to talk about the new institute and to discuss another new federally funded nanotechnology effort. Spring Semester study abroad receptionWednesday, Jan. 15. 5-7:30 p.m. The Programs for Study Abroad Office is hosting a reception in Young Graduate House, Room 105, for returning Purdue students and incoming study abroad participants. Corporate gift to provide new scholarshipsWednesday, Jan. 22. 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A "press coffee" will be in the Purdue Memorial Union to announce and discuss a major corporate gift. The donation will help underrepresented students and those with the greatest financial need get an education at Purdue University in engineering and computer science. Contact: Jesica Webb, Purdue News Service, (765) 494-2079, (765) 423-7326 (pager). Purdue to dedicate new Colby Fitness CenterThursday, Jan. 23. 3 p.m. Recreational Sports Center. Purdue will dedicate its new Colby Fitness Center, located in the lower level of the Recreational Sports Center. The center was named in honor of Ken and Linda Colby of San Diego, Calif., who donated $1 million toward construction of the 19,000-square-foot facility, which features new cardiovascular and weight training equipment. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will present a Pinnacle Award to the Colbys and unveil a plaque. Ken Colby; Tom Robinson, vice president for student services; Carol Stickel, Recreational Sports Center director; and a student who uses the new fitness center will speak. University Senate meetingMonday, Jan. 27. 2:30 p.m. University Senate meeting. Stewart Center, Room 302. Acclaimed author Maya Angelou to speakWednesday, Feb. 5. 7 p.m. Maya Angelou will deliver an address in the Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets for the speech will go on sale Wednesday, Jan. 15. Admission is $5 for Purdue students and $10 for the general public. Seats will be reserved for the media, however, flash photography is not permitted and only the first five minutes of her address can be recorded. In addition to Angelou's address, a variety of related campus events will take place the week of Feb. 3, for which the theme is "Project Respect: Expressions of Human Rights."
