New president to lead Purdue Student Government

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ‹ Stephanie Warner, a junior in agricultural education from South Whitley, Ind., is the new president of Purdue Student Government.

Warner had served the past semester as vice president and replaces former president Greg Canfield, who has decided to not return to Purdue. Chris Geswein, a senior majoring in agricultural economics from Palmyra, Ind., will assume the role of vice president. Geswein previously served as chief of staff and director of Boiler Pride for 2001-02.

"I look forward to working with each of the members of Purdue Student Government to make this semester successful for students at Purdue and rewarding for government members," Warner said.

Warner previously served as a senator for the School of Agriculture and as chair of the Student Affairs Committee in the 2001-02 session. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Agriculture Ambassadors, the Indiana Association of Agriculture Educators, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Zeta and Skull & Crescent honorary. She also has been selected as the outstanding freshman and sophomore in agricultural education, the Betty Nelson Skilled Leader and the Harry L. Pearson Outstanding Leader.

Geswein is an active member of Mortar Board Senior National Honor Society, FarmHouse Fraternity and Agriculture Ambassadors. He also served as the student director for the 2002 Emily Mauzy Vogel Sophomore Leadership Development Conference.

Upcoming events sponsored by Purdue Student Government include a speech by acclaimed author Maya Angelou on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and the Grand Alternative Concert on Sunday, April 27. Purdue Student Government also is researching issues that affect the student body, including student fees and the need for more space for student organizations.

Student government elections take place each March, with officers serving a one-year term.
