Purdue Student Union Board promotes homelessness awareness

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – To raise awareness about the plight of the homeless in Greater Lafayette, the Purdue Student Union Board and the Homelessness Prevention Network will sponsor an event entitled "Night in a Box."

From 6 p.m. on Monday (11/18) to 6 a.m. Tuesday (11/19) at the Purdue Memorial Mall participants will spend the evening sleeping in a box to dramatize how the homeless live. They also will receive a biography of a homeless person from the Greater Lafayette area. Soup will be served for dinner and a barrel fire will be lit.

Event organizer Dario Perdomo says "Night in a Box" should be a memorable consciousness raiser.

"Night in a Box is sure to be a powerful event that brings awareness to the problem of homelessness," Perdomo says. "We want to put into perspective the needs and lifestyles of the homeless."

Anyone is welcome to join PSUB for a "Night in a Box." Participants are asked to bring a canned food item to benefit the Lafayette Food Finders Food Bank. Boxes and soup will be provided.
