November 8, 2002 Purdue names 2002 outstanding electrical engineering alumniWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seven Purdue University graduates were named this year's Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineers during an award ceremony Thursday (11/7). "These inductees join an exclusive group of exemplary graduates who are among the finest in their fields," said Linda P.B. Katehi, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering. "We are indebted to them for their achievements, their expertise and their service to humankind." Of Purdue's roughly 20,000 electrical and computer engineering graduates, about 134 have received the awards since 1992. "As we celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Awards, the school is proud to present seven phenomenal Purdue alumni with the honor that recognizes our very best," said Leah H. Jamieson, interim head of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Ransburg Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This year's award recipients were: • James C. Anderson, of Palo Alto, Calif., who received bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue, both in 1972, and a master's degree in business administration in 1977 from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He has founded three venture capital companies and helped to develop hundreds of young firms. • Barry Epstein, of Dallas, who received a bachelor's degree in 1961 and a master's degree in 1963 from Purdue. He holds 48 patents in the fields of communications and electronics. • Charles V. Jakowatz Jr., of Albuquerque, N.M., who received a bachelor's degree in 1972, a master's degree in 1973 and a doctoral degree in 1976, all from Purdue. Jakowatz is widely recognized for his many achievements in signal processing. • Mostafa Kaveh, of Minneapolis, who received a bachelor's degree in 1969 and a doctoral degree in 1974 from Purdue, and a master's degree in 1970 from the University of California, Berkeley. He is Centennial Chair Professor and head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota. • Catherine E. Kozik, of Naperville, Ill., who received a bachelor's degree in 1982 from Purdue and a master's degree in business administration in 1987 from the University of Chicago. She currently is chief information officer and senior vice president of global information systems for Tellabs Inc. • A. Stephen Morse, of Woodbridge, Conn., who received a doctoral degree from Purdue in 1967. He is a professor in the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Yale University. • Hyodae Park, of Gangnamgu, South Korea, who received a doctoral degree in 1988 from Purdue. He is chairman, CEO and founding member of S-Net Systems, a software company that has become the second largest network integration company in South Korea.
