November 5, 2002 Police arrest Purdue student on two marijuana related charges WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police today (Tuesday, 11/5) arrested a 19-year-old student on two charges stemming from use and possession of marijuana in her residence hall room. Jessica Leah McPherson, a sophomore in the School of Science from Fort Wayne, Ind., was arrested at approximately 2:30 p.m. after a search of her Earhart Hall room. She faces charges of maintaining a common nuisance and possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, said Ron Fosnaugh, Purdue police captain of special services. McPherson was being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Maintaining a common nuisance, the use of property for a drug-related crime, is a Class D felony punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
