October 29: President Jischke To Visit Logansport

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will visit Logansport, Ind., as part of Purdue Days in Indiana. Jischke's itinerary includes visits to the Cass County Government Building, Fairview Elementary School and the Century Career Center. Jischke and other university officials also will visit local businesses, the industrial park, meet with Purdue alumni and attend the Purdue Alumni Association Annual Scholarship Banquet. November 5: Post Harvest Recertification Workshop

Purdue Extension and Indiana Grain and Feed will offer a workshop that deals with pest management. The workshop, at the Purdue Extension Office in Indianapolis, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Licensed fumigators and farmers who want recertification can attend, as well anyone interested in learning more about pest management and maintaining grain quality. The registration fee is $80 at the door. The advance registration fee, due by Oct. 31, is $70. Fee does not include lunch. Registration forms are available at the entomology Extension Web site. November 12: Timber Marketing And Harvesting For Woodland Owners

This workshop is for forest owners wanting to know more about selling timber from their forests. The event will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Kimball International Inc. Education Center, located on 12th Avenue in Jasper, Ind. The workshop will cover forest management plans, deciding which trees should be harvested and which trees should be left, timber marketing methods, advertising the timber sale, timber sale contracts, what to expect during logging, what to do after the timber harvest is complete and assistance available to landowners. The event is sponsored by Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Purdue Extension, The Indiana Department of Natural Resources' Division of Forestry, Kimball International, Purdue Extension in Dubois County and Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District. November 15: Logging Wood Tour And Demonstration

The demonstration will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southern Indiana Purdue Agriculture Center, Purdue Farm Road, north side of Patoka Lake, Dubois, Ind. Signs will be posted from State Road 145. Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Indiana Department of Natural Resources' Division of Forestry and Les Distributions Payeur Inc. of Quebec, Canada, will provide an educational opportunity for forest landowners and others to learn more about the process of harvesting timber while protecting the productivity of the forest. There will be tours of a recent conventional logging operation; keys to a "good" logging job; and a small-scale, "low impact" logging equipment demonstration.
