Author to share secrets of collegiate success

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – How students can profit the most from college will be the focus of a speech at Purdue University on Friday, Nov. 1.

Richard Light, a professor in the Graduate School of Education and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, will speak at 10 a.m. in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. The speech is free and open to the public.

Light is the author of the best-selling book, "Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds." Thomas Robinson, vice president for student services, says Light will offer practical advice for students, faculty and staff on how to maximize the college experience.

"He is an engaging speaker," Robinson says. "It will be a lot of fun to bring Richard Light to campus."

An informal panel discussion on college life also will be held at 1 p.m. in Fowler Hall. The panel will be composed of Purdue Provost Sally Frost-Mason, Dean of Students Tony Hawkins, Purdue Student Government President Greg Canfield, University Senate Student Affairs Committee chair Olivia Wood and Meredith Hall resident assistant Tonya Wessel.
