Purdue hikes to stomp out hunger

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – To alleviate hunger in Greater Lafayette and Haiti, Purdue University staff, faculty and students will participate in the Hunger Hike in downtown Lafayette on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The seven kilometer hike will begin at 1 p.m. at Riehle Plaza. The route begins at the plaza, runs along the Wabash Heritage trail into West Lafayette and returns back to the plaza.

Proceeds will benefit the Food Finder's Food Bank, Lafayette Urban Ministry and hunger relief efforts in Haiti. Dario Perdomo, director of Ideas and Issues for the Purdue Student Union Board, says he hopes many people participate in the event.

"The hike is an excellent way to witness the community come together in its commitment to help fight hunger," Perdomo says.

People interested in hiking can pick up a donation envelope in the PSUB office in Room 268 of the Purdue Memorial Union or at the Boiler Volunteer Network office in Room G-4 of Stewart Center. The hike is sponsored by the PSUB, the Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic Association and Phi Delta Theta.
