Campus activities
– John T. Kirby, professor of classics, will present "Teaching the Humanities at the Turn of the Millennium" at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the West Faculty Lounge in the Purdue Memorial Union. – Marcia Baron, philosophy professor from Indiana University, will present "Self-Defense: The Reasonable Belief Requirement" at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Beering Hall, Room 1268. An informal reception follows. Copies of papers are usually available in the main office about a week before the paper is presented. For more information, call (765) 494-4276.

Faculty and staff honors
– Suzanne Nielsen, professor of food science, received the 2002 William V. Cruess Award from the Institute of Food Technologists. The honor recognizes members who have achieved excellence in teaching food science and technology. Nielsen has received the Department of Food Science's outstanding instructor award for nine of the past 18 years. The Institute of Food Technologists is a not-for-profit scientific society with 27,000 members working in food science, technology and related professions in industry, academia and government.
